Sweatsuits, the Real MVP of 2020

Through the many ups and downs of this tumultuous year, sweatsuits have been our ultimate fashion ride-or-die. From masked-up grocery runs to WFH zoom calls, they have held us down through it all. I know a lot of us tried switching up the fit rotation for summer to summon a sense of normalcy, but now that cozy season has returned, it’s time to bring the sweats back out. I have long been an avid supporter of sweatpants and sweatshirts as separate pieces, but it wasn’t until this year that I truly saw the magic of a sweatsuit in its entirety. To prep for the cold winter ahead, I have put together a little sweatsuit style and shopping guide, highlighting my favorite sweatsuit genres. Continue below for all the need-to-know deets.

1) CLASSIC GREY

When I think of sweatsuits, the first thing that comes to mind is classic, grey set. It’s clean, simple, and you can easily dress up or down. Since grey is so understated, it’s perfect to wear with a pair of standout kicks or you can top with an oversized blazer or statement coat to make the look a bit more polished and refined.

2) PASTELS

Usually as the weather cools down, our wardrobe tends to become a sea of black, grey, and neutrals, so I love the idea of throwing some pastels into the rotation. Something about opting for a pastel sweatsuit immediately gives the illusion that you’ve put way more effort into the fit than you did. To style, keep the color scheme going with some coordinated kicks or a pair of white boots.

3) NEUTRALS

I talked about my love of neutrals last fall and this year is no different. When it comes to picking your preferred neutral, you can choose anything from a soft off-white to a rich chocolate brown. I recommend styling with clean, white lowtop sneakers or a pair of statement booties.

4) CROPPED

If you’re anything like me, a little cold weather is NOT stopping the crop top flow. Depending on how cool your fall is, you can wear under a bomber jacket or trench or wear on its own. I also think a cropped sweatsuit is perfect for a lounge day at home.
